Lost-ActionScript-week-end

If your new to AS3 then you really should go and watch some videos by Colin Moock who is well known for his Essential ActionScript 3.0 Book.  Colin does a great job of showing you stuff with out the lecture, so you’re sure to learn and enjoy what you’re watching.

Head over to Adobe to view a few hours worth of video.

Have a look at the art as it comes to life right before your eyes. See how others made their sketches or give it a shot and make your own art for others to enjoy.

This site uses flash as a tool to let you sketch up some art then show it back to others in a stop motion style of the process and making of the sketch.  This could be just as much a learning site as it is entertaining.

redbull

If you haven’t already, go check you the fun soap box racer game by Red Bull. This shows yet again how complex flash sites can get.  You can make your own custom soapbox race car and fling it down the track while you race against your opponent.

warngings

Thibault Imbert over at http://bytearray.org thinks that you can speed up your compile time by disabling the warnings mode in your File -> Publish Settings -> Flash Tab -> Script > Settings.

At best I have only seen warnings for naming functions like “onEnterFrame” or having more then one instance name be the same.  So I don’t see how disabling it could do harm and if it speeds things up why not try and be the judge for your self.

Flash & Flex Developers Magazine has been around for a little over a year.  You can find their mag in places like Borders Books, but coming September  they have decided to pull the publication from the shelf for good…  Now before you panic Flash & Flex will be going 100% digital come September, in addition to that it will also be 100% free.

Now this is big news in more then one way.  This shows that magazines can profit more  from adds then it can from sales and live online for free to the public..  This has a number of benefits  from the environment, over all costs, rapid saturation to being a free publication. In the end this means more readers and less costs for everyone.

So if you haven’t all ready go sign up for the news letter at http://www.ffdmag.com and get your free publication of  Flash & Flex Developers Magazine coming September.
