Flash and Flex Developer’s Magazine is kicking off the new year with more content more often. Ewa Samulska, the lead editor for FFD has informed me that the new magazine is going Bi-monthly (“was quarterly”) and is adding an extra 16 pages per issue. You maybe thinking, “That’s great and all, but what about the content?”. Well I can tell you that the magazine is maturing rapidly and is becoming a most have resource for all skill levels of Flash, Flex and Air coders. The first issue of 09 is packed full of content for all skill levels. Going from learning about Google maps in flash to using flash with the Nintendo Wii to accessing Microsoft Analysis Services to Retrieve OLAP Cube data in flex. Long story short there is something in FFD for everybody.

I made a blog post on my own blog about a class that I made some time ago. Today I decided to remake it so that you can work with different positions of scaling and bitmapsmoothing on or off.
In short what this class will bo is take a url for a image, load in interanly, span and algin the image to fill the whole stage and resize if the browser window or stage size changes.

The Next meeting is coming up soon. Since the group has started I have seen more people who are looking to learn the basics about OOP in as3. So I thought I would be best for the next meeting to be an all out Q and A with examples.
This meeting will be held once again at the Kayaks coffee house at 6pm this next Satarday the 10th.
And of course we will also talk alittle about the new contest coming up.
Hope to see you there.

AS3 Apex will be hosting a contest soon. The grand prize will be a copy CS4 Web premium, plus there will be runner up prizes tshirts, books ect…. All of this is still in the works and we need your help to refine the idea so that it’s a fun and fair contest to all skill levels and types of people. There is a new Area in our forums that I would encourage you to post about your ideas, dislikes, questions and just about any thing else related to the contest.
Now on to the good stuff.
Please keep in mined that to details are still in the works. You have a maze that you tween a little icon through with out touching the wall or crossing the wall. The tweening is accomplished by a switch and a incrementing integer The current ideas for some of the rules are that you can only add an x and y value to an tween per case to navigate the icon. I may just brake this down even more to make it even easier for new action script people. This contest is about gaining awareness for our industry by educating people about action script and getting them excited to learn.
I have attached to source of the current idea. the-biggest-tweener
